When you love what you do, people can't help noticing. It shines through your actions. A week ago, on a day when the world was reeling from terrorist attacks in Paris, I felt one person's love for her work first hand. "Come and join us" she said as I went into breakfast,
In those four words, I had without doubt the best welcome I have ever received in any hotel and a genuine greeting from someone who palpably loves what she does. On that day in particular, to someone whose second home is France, they were words that were badly needed in the world and warmed the cockles of my heart. Anabelle is the Head Waitress at theNorfolk Hotel in Bournemouth where my husband and I were staying for a special surprise family birthday party. Unlike many, her spirit of service was not like the veneer often experienced when someone doesn't care and used to masks indifference. It is Anabelle's gift and her essence which creates a warmth of connection an welcome seldom felt in this context. Combined with her passion for what she does and where she works, her spirit burns all the brighter, fuelled by the genuine desire to provide exception service coupled with a mastery of skill and attitude so great that every guest feels it. We talked for a bit and I asked her secret of her success: "It's simple," she said. "I love my job." If you don't feel able to say that about your work, may be we should talk.
