The average British worker spends around 84,000 hours across their lifetime at work. The only thing we spend more time doing is sleeping (source: the Associate of Accounting Technicians). According to experts and researchers in employee engagement, Gallup, every workplace has three different types of people. At Career Alchemy, we call them stars, sleepwalkers, and saboteurs... We all know who the stars are. They are the handful of people who go the extra mile because they are intellectually engaged and they care.
Then there are the sleepwalkers: the two-thirds of people who simply go through the motions every day without feeling connected to what they do emotionally. Finally, there are the saboteurs. They have become like that usually because they were stars who were treated badly so have actively disengaged intellectually and emotionally. When the intellectual and emotional connection is missing so is success and motivation. So if you find yourself sleepwalking or worst still feeling more like a saboteur than a star at work, this newsletter is designed for you. We all have a story Sometimes it’s a story we chose and sometimes it’s a story we fall into. If we are lucky, the career story we fall into helps us to create a working life we love. If not, it can make us ill, miserable, and lacking in energy. How do I know? Because I have experienced it firsthand. I still remember the feeling today of being lost. Eventually, I was able to find my way to doing what I love. More importantly, I have been able to use that feeling as the rocket fuel for my passion for helping help others to escape a job they hate and create a career they love. today we launched a new fortnightly newsletter on LinkedIn in which our Lead Coach, Carolyn Parry, will be taking a look at one aspect of what it takes to create and develop a working life you love. You can sign up for it here: www.linkedin.com/newsletters/change-your-story-7030121565824417792/ Carolyn will be sharing reflections on news items, insights from client stories, and themes from the Career Alchemy research-proven framework and toolkit called INSPiRED. Identifying what's not working The INSPiRED framework contains a one-page career and life planner which we use with all our clients to help them to get a big-picture view of what they want. It also acts as a handy tool to identify what's not working currently. When you are clear about what needs to change, it's easy to make a plan for that change. To celebrate the launch of this newsletter, you can access your free copy of the planner via this link: And if you are looking for more inspiration, why not listen to Carolyn's Change Your Story podcast, available on all major platforms and via the Career Alchemy website. We hope it helps you to escape from the weekly grind and create a working life you actually love.
